Anthony Mundine Has a Long Lost Rap Career That Actually Wasn’t That Bad

Anthony ‘Choc’ Mundine has never shied away from making his voice heard, from viciously opposing lockdowns and covid safety measures, to stating that homosexuality is incompatible with Aboriginal Beliefs (but his Islamic beliefs are somehow fine).
A little-known fact about the former boxer and NRL player is that he once took a brief foray into the world of rap music, and even released an album in 2007.
The album, titled Dream, was released on his own label ‘Behaavya Music’ and features the lead single ‘Platinum Ryder’ which was made into a music video.
The song takes influence from the melodic R&B style of hip-hop at the time, with artists such as Neyo, Chris Brown, and Usher dominating the airwaves.
The video features cameos from Nathan Merrit and Amos Roberts, as well as shots of Mundine flexing his muscles and wearing a suit on a red background a-la Jamie Foxx in Kanye West’s Gold Digger.
While the music itself was somewhat glossed over in public discourse, the clip was seen as controversial due to the burning of a Union Jack flag as well as a picture of then-Prime Minister John Howard.
With such a prolific career across so many mediums, it’s no surprise that his album flew under the radar, however with Australian rap as popular at the moment as it’s ever been, it might be time for a re-release.
The album isn’t available digitally or online, with the limited run of CDs in 2007 the only copies currently on this earth, making this a prize piece of memorabilia.
If anyone owns or has access to these timeless pieces of music, reach out please, for the world needs to hear Choc’s message before CTE completely melts away his rapping abilities.
